SUBMISSIONS POLICY
Victory Gardens Theater accepts submissions from January 1st through June 30th only. Your compliance with this time frame helps ensure that submissions can be read and responded to in a more timely manner. Submissions received outside of this range will be recycled without being read.
Victory Gardens accepts unsolicited manuscripts from Chicago-area writers only. From writers outside Chicago, we request a query consisting of a cover letter, a 10-page dialog sample (preferably the first 10 pages), and a brief bio or artistic resume. At this time, we are interested in full-length works only. We have no production or reading opportunities for one acts or 10 minute plays. We do accept musicals, though VGT has a limited history of producing musicals. Please familiarize yourself with our production history prior to sending a submission.
Please note that Victory Gardens supports an ensemble of 14 playwrights. Our commitment to the playwrights ensemble limits the number of production slots in a season available to writers outside the ensemble.
Response time for manuscripts is 6 to 8 months. Response time for queries is 3 to 4 months. We are currently experiencing a backlog, and appreciate your patience as we review all submissions received.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact literary manager Aaron Carter at acarter@victorygardens.org.
